It's a shame this game never got much attention. :(

nice to see a gameplay of this one, one of my favorite crpgs of all times =)

If you can get through this, it really is the definition of epic.

Let's Play Phantasy Star Generation: 1

Platform: PlayStation 2
Released: 2003
Genre: RPG
Setting: Science Fiction
Developer: 3D Ages
Publisher: Japan Art Media Co., Ltd.

Playlist:

First Video in the Series:

This, my friends, is a remake of the original Phantasy Star - the one that spawned three sequels, a slew of spin-offs, and two MMORPGs. The first Phantasy Star was released in 1987 or 1988 (depending on what part of the country you live in) on the Sega Master System. It's one of the first RPGs (if not *the* RPG) to feature a female protagonist. It's also one of the first sci-fi RPG games, and the first to feature 3D dungeon crawling on a console. This is a remake for the PlayStation 2 which was only released in Japan. Fortunately, someone named Kyence has fully translated the game into English. So here I am, playing an English translation of a Japanese remake of a video game from the `80s... on PCSX2, a PlayStation 2 emulator.

Heh! I used to play the tabletop RPG...usually as a half-orkish street samurai.

Funny how it says in the character creation that there is no proof of trolls being less intelligent, but right next it shows intelligence maximum that is 2/3rds of humans.

Let's Play Legend of Grimrock (Blind)

Platform: PC/Windows
Released: 2012
Genre: RPG
Setting: Fantasy/Dungeon Crawler
Developer: Almost Human Ltd.
Publisher: Almost Human Ltd.
Version: 1.3.6 and 1.3.7

Playlist:

This is a dungeon crawling role playing game with an oldschool heart but a modern execution. It brings back the oldschool challenge with highly tactical real-time combat and grid-based movement, devious hidden switches and secrets, as well as deadly traps and horrible monsters. It's the classic gameplay of Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder (among others), with today's graphics and multimedia capabilities. I'll say this right now: I am having a blast, and I love this game! Just try to watch your ears during a few surprise incidents during this Let's Play, especially if you're wearing headphones. Dungeon crawling has never been more fun.

[Total Game Time: 35:02:39]

Selected Comments From YouTube:

• Amazing game! I played it twice. Once with a team and once with a solo character. My only
suggestion is to pick your magic and focus it. If you spread it around too much you won't be able to
get the higher spells. Have fun!!

• I looooooooooooove this game! The enemies look really scary!

• They really don't give you any clues as to what you are doing in this game, specifically with how magic works. I died about 6 minutes into my first Grimrock adventure after making a magic heavy party where I dumped a bunch of points into the wrong magic skill. I had a party of mages that couldn't cast any spells!

• How much did this game cost? I think I may just go out and grab it.

• that's awesome you got around to doing this game!  i have had my eye on it for awhile just hadn't
played it myself

Let's Play Chaos Strikes Back

Platform: Amiga
Released: 1989
Genre: RPG
Setting: Fantasy/Dungeon Crawler
Developer: FTL Games
Publisher: FTL Games
Version: 3.1

Playlist:

First Video in the Series:

It's the sequel to Dungeon Master! So you thought Dungeon Master was hard? Tag along as I tackle one of the most complicated, convoluted dungeons ever designed. Our quest is to find the four corbums (eh?) that sucked the mana from the Grey Lord, causing Lord Chaos to split off from him again. Lost yet? We'll just battle our way through four paths: Ku (warrior), Neta (priest), Ros (ninja), and Dain (wizard), finding a corbum at the end of each one. Once all the corbums are collected, we just throw them into the Fulya Pit (huh?), and we'll save the day. Simple, huh? Ha! Ha ha ha ha! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

P.S. -  The first ten videos were recorded in March/April of 2012, and only the first five were uploaded at that time. I was unable to get past an event in episode 11 due to the fact that I only had a rudimentary graphics card. Now that I can use Fraps, I can play the game in fullscreen, and get past the event (grabbing the first Corbum from the niche at the end of end of the "Ku" level). So... Episode 11 begins all new recordings in January of 2013, starting from where I left off.

• seems hard for early in the game!

• Poor Wulf... She gets dragon killed, then brought back to life, but forced to walk on a brocken ankle and leg for an eternity (to her) until he finaly get some potions. Then the first real fight she gets in again she gets eaten by a spider... Man life isn't easy in your DMing sessions Amethyst... If we ever play D&D togetter, remind me to make a 22 CON dwarf warrior ;-)

• thank you i love you so much :p

• That is horrifying. If I ever played this when I was a little girl I'd still have nightmares! Geez or even if I was little today with all the crazy graphics! I remember getting starttled over the tiniest things...

Observe as I rid the town of Spielburg from it's curse of brigands and it's plague of monsters... or die trying.

I played this in tandem with The CRPG Addict and The Adventure Gamer. They blogged about the original EGA release of the game, while I did my Let's Play on the VGA re-release. Links to their blog posts can be found below.

Let's Read The Books of Skyrim

Technically, these aren't Let's Plays. They are Let's Reads. I'm intent on reading aloud every book I find in Skyrim (many of which are present in the previous Elder Scrolls games as well), and presenting them in video form, turning the pages as I go. All of these books are linked from (and link back to) events in my Let's Play series of Skyrim, in which I find the books themselves.

This may seem ridiculous (and it probably is!), but some people are actually leaving favorable comments on these videos.

I'm not going to make an entry for this in the list of Let's Plays, but I will embed and link to the playlist and first video in the series.

This is going to take me about a year to finish if I keep up with it, as I believe there are 300-something non-journal books in Skyrim. All I can say is that I'm having fun so far, and learning so much about the lore of the entire Elder Scrolls series.

Selected Comments From YouTube:

• wow this is a very interesting idea thanks for doing this

• It's like story telling time at the local library...8)

• THIS is unique...

• Thank you for taking the time to do these videos, they are great. :)

• Wonderful ,I love all your Elder Scrolls readings. You are a true Elder Scrolls fan and a credit to the ES games.

• Moral of the story: in Skyrim, insane people are actually posessed by the evil Daedric Prince Sheogorath, so don't try to take advantage of them or they'll double-cross your ass and then laugh inside your skull while you slowly starve to death.

This one made me LOL! Thank you.

Thank you ,wonderful reading, it explains the story of Oblivion very well.

Thanks for this. I have always wanted to read the books I found in Skyrim. My home in Breezehome are filled books lying on the floor. XD But I never have found the time to read it because when in game, I'd rather go questing. This is also easier because it's like watching a movie with subs. :D

could you include subtitles? naaah i'm jokin good job

I could listen to you read these all day, you know in reading countless books from both Marrowind and Oblivion, that's the height of the games, it's what makes "The Elder Scrolls," amazing to play.

I left a comment on your "Mysterious Akavir" video about how sources conflict about the physical nature of the Tsaesci race. In this book, they're described as having mounted scouts and cavalry. If they were literally snakes with snake bodies, such an act would be difficult to imagine. This is one of several instances where the lore is internally inconsistent and we, the fans, are left to interpret it on our own. Again, I enjoy and appreciate your videos.

Gave you a "like" for reading from one of my favorite series in TES. It's right up there with 2920, the real Barenziah, the Commentaries on the Mysterium Xarxes, the Lessons of Vivec and the Remanada. All favorites of mine, but this one rivals them

I was looking for this.. too lazy to read them myself! thats unfortunate Good JOB!

Very good work, you have a pleasant voice. This is one of my favorite books, if you haven't read Disaster at Ionith, could you?

Awesome! I've watched all your "read the books of Skyrim" videos! Keep up the good work!

I love these videos, I am absolutely in love with the Elder Scrolls series & it's lore! Thank you!

Join aspiring Breton mage Amethyst, as she braves the wilds of the province of Skyrim, in search of her destiny. This is a Let's ROLEplay, but I do take things casually, and may be out of character often. I like to have fun playing too, and thus may joke around and such. I'm also a slow and thoughtful player, and will not race through the game. If any of these styles displease you, then please feel free to go bye-bye. Thanks.

GAME SETTINGS

I'm playing this game on 1920x1080 resolution (1080p), on the High setting, but with shadow detail set to Medium (due to lag from Fraps recording software, otherwise I could play in Ultra with nVidia tweaks enabled). As of episode 7, I completely turned off antialiasing and anisotropic filtering to get the framerate with Fraps a bit higher.

MODS INSTALLED

Even if you've played this game, it may look and sound different to you, due to the various mods I've implemented. These only affect graphics and sound, not gameplay. Here are the mods I'm using (subject to change as game progresses):

• SkyUI v2.2 (improves the interface for PC users): http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3863

• SKSE v1.4.14 (Skyrim Script Extender - Needed by SkyUI): http://skse.silverlock.org/

• Skyrim HD - 2K Textures v1.5 (upgrades tons of textures to high resolution; in towns, the wild, dungeons, and more): http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=607

• Lush Trees v1.3 (adds extra branches and needles to make landscape more dense and wild): http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3385

• Lush Grass v1.4.1 (makes grass look taller and thicker):
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3288

• Quality World Map With Roads v8.0 (adds roads and better textures to Skyrim's map):
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4929

• Enhanced Distant Terrain v1.3 (improves distant low-level terrain): http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=1598

• Sounds of Skyrim: The Wilds v1.0.1 (adds nearly 100 background sound effects to all "outside" areas of Skyrim): http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=10886

• Sounds of Skyrim: The Dungeons v1.1 (adds about 100 background sound effects to all dungeons): http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=8601

• Female Face Retexture - with Lips Tint Mask v1.8.1 (makes skin smoother, lips fuller, and removes age lines - how vain, I know): http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=5106

• Hair Pack v1.0.8 (newer, and usually more attractive, hairstyles - I hate the unwashed hair look in Skyrim - again, vain but oh well): http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3809

• Female Bard Cover by Malukah Ingame v1.1 (replaces bard songs with their renditions by YouTube sensation Malukah! (I haven't tested this as of this writing, but hopefully it'll work.)): http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=6162

• 101 BugsHD HighRes HighSpawn v4 (adds more bugs and ingredients to the world): http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4955

I always give in to the urge to put chamber pots on the heads of a sleeping characters...XB

orcs with enormous axes make very big holes in adventurers in this game xD

the companions you say? better bring a flea collar =P

Holiday Delays and Other Creatures

Wow. The holidays really got me caught behind in game playing and recording. I like to record during the day, when the kids are at school. I like to be about two weeks ahead, in case of flu, toothache, or traitorous headset microphones. I was in good shape around the Thanksgiving holiday, but I fell somewhat behind in December. First, I was sick, then one of my kids were home sick. The fight with Dran Draggore in Eye of the Beholder II didn't help either. It took me almost all day to kill that suminumbatch. Anyway, I could record at night when everyone goes to sleep, but I find that I'm not as into the game when I do that. I always have this feeling in the back of my head that someone is listening to me, or someone's going to ask me to get a drink for them while I'm trying to kill some boss character. My Let's Plays seem a bit more bland to me when it's a night recording.

So I'm taking a week off. I hope that it will only be a week, but that should be sufficient. I don't like fly-by-LPs, where I record, edit, and upload all in one day. With the editing and the YouTube viewing afterwards (for glitch spotting and annotating when necessary), I just wasn't getting ahead at all.

Speaking of Eye of the Beholder, I had a great time playing those two games, but I'm also thrilled to be done with them, and get on to Dungeon Master. I won't be playing the third Eye of the Beholder game anytime soon. There isn't a remake of this game, which means no automap. Doing a Let's Play while mapping on graph paper is... ummm, stupid. I've played Dungeon Master before, and I remember most of it. It's a lot easier to lay waste to Lord Chaos than Dran Draggore.  ;)

As a new Let's Player, I'm trying to get a bunch of games under my belt. Adventure games are good for this, since they usually take under 10 hours to finish, even while playing blind. RPGs, however, tend to be a bit longer. Okay, a whole lot longer! If I was to start playing Baldur's Gate I and II now, I wouldn't be done for over a year and a half. Having three RPGs done (and twice that many adventure games)... well, it brings some satisfaction to me. It can also result in more subscribers. The more games you play, the more searches will come to your videos.

That said, to be a Let's Player, you really have to do it for your own reasons, and have fun with it. There's plenty who have done it for some kind of fame or something. Many of them quit doing LPs. As for me, the fringe benefits of comments and subscriptions are really nice, but they're just the icing on the cake. I'm playing games, gabbing while playing games, editing me gabbing while playing games, uploading my edits of me gabbing while playing games... and I'm having a blast. `Nuff said.

Let's Play Dungeon Master

Platform: Amiga
Released: 1987
Genre: RPG
Setting: Fantasy/Dungeon Crawler
Developer: FTL Games
Publisher: FTL Games
Version: 3.6

 Playlist:

First Video in the Series:

This is the grandaddy of them all! Dungeon Master is the first real-time 3D RPG. It became the highest-selling game for the Atari ST, and was rapidly ported to many other systems soon after. I'm playing the Amiga version, which I greatly prefer. This game scared the hell out of me when I was little. After being battle-hardened (horror-hardened?) by games like Silent Hill and Undying, I was able to handle the shrieking mummies a bit better. I later finished the game, ergo this is not a blind run like many of my other Let's Plays. I'll try to be informative and such, but there's no way I can fly around the dungeons like Elanarae can. ;)

Yay! Finally an interesting LP of this game! :D
Keep up the good work!

karate trousers!! this game was so weird in some ways for a fantasy game. but the wizardry and M&M games were very strange at times too i reckon. o.0

it's amazing after all these years DM still has great gameplay mechanics - better than most of its rivals in a lot of ways. its only true gameplay weakness is the lack of a map IMO. =)

don't you know it's against dungeon regulations to go around dropping doors on peoples' heads willy-nilly. management will have to be informed!

I'm so glad I found Your channel. I was watching Your playthrough of Dungeon Master for 2 days straight now... Thank You for bringing tears of nostalgia to my eyes. I remember I used to play this game when I was like 10. Only I had Amiga 1200 so my friends used to come to my home and try to figure out the riddles and puzzles with me. So much fun... And it scared the shit out of us too!

I saw your name. I checked your channel. I picked a possibly interesting LP. And I was not disappointed. You have gained a new subscriber this day!

DM Is still good game. Played it fully with that Java remake, and i'm on my way in Chaos Strikes back.. now that's a challenge, And i like the idea of no map, you can teach your memory a lot that way :) On Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades and Pools of Darkness on the other hand, now that needs some mapping at some places. I really like the old RPG games.

You have a good taste in games...this is my favourite game of all time...I'll be watching this...

Let's Play Eye of the Beholder II: The Legend of Darkmoon

A Blind Let's Play
Platform: Amiga
Released: 1992
Genre: RPG
Setting: Fantasy/Dungeon Crawler
Developer: Westwood Studios
Publisher: Strategic Simulations Inc. (SSI)
Version: 1.05 AGA, WHDLoad Version: 0.1

Playlist:
First Video in the Series:

Khelben the somber archmage bids us to investigate the Church of Darkmoon. There have been disappearances and other strange goings-on in the vicinity. We soon find that the priests and priestesses are indeed behind the disappearances. I mean, come on, it's named "Darkmoon," for crying out loud! As expected, there is some dungeon-crawling, but the majority of the game consists of tower-crawling. Not that there's much difference, but this game is crazy fun anyway.

Just like with EotB1, someone named CFou! refurbished the original Amiga game with the 256-color graphics from the IBM version. Here is the game in all it's AGA glory. And don't forget the automap.

Cool, you'll be doing this EOB as well. The general consensus is that #2 is the best of the series. I can't wait for your take on it, but first, I've got some serious catching up to do on the second half of your EOB I run... :-)

Your faction with The Cult of the Diaper is taking a beating..

it's interesting to see a 2-cleric party go through this game. i resurrected san-raal and played 2 mages i think. this approach is good i think - taghor is much tougher and doesn't die nearly as much =)

fireball fun for all the family! 8)

i saw the still and thought, that dwarf is on rhoids. lol

tough tower this but great fun to watch. crazy hard monsters still to come - keep those protection spells up! 8)

Amazing amount of work you went through in order to show us this longplay. Thanks for putting in the hours. It was great to relive this nostalgia trip once again. Keep up the good work and keep more of this stuff coming.

that was a really fun LP. very good entertainment! =) it was a heck of a challenge to figure out the keys while fighting the toughest monster in the game. i wonder if alain the ancient had touched amethyst would she have reached lvl 12 before the end?

Ah, This game brings memories too. Never finished it tho. Watched my big brother play all of them through. And EotB3 was hard nut to crack. Endless mazes and teleportations if i remember right. One good dungeon crawler i might suggest is Bloodwych, we played it co-op a lot when we were young... To think of it, there weren't many other co-op crawlers. It has some nasty teleport, click buttons fast mazes too :) Time to get some snacks and enjoy the show.
